Josie participates in 'Wonder of Science Young Science Ambassador' program

PhD candidate from our team Josie Humphries has been accepted into the 'Wonder of Science Young Science Ambassador' program, and has been participating in school visits to foster a STEM culture in Queensland schools.

The role of the Young Science Ambassadors is to visit participating schools and work with students from grade 4 to 9 on a range of STEM-focused challenge tasks, which culminate in the development of a research project. The best projects from each year group are chosen by the schools and have the opportunity to attend a regional conference in their local area.

Between now and November Josie will be visiting schools and attending regional and state student conferences as a YSA. This last week Josie attended Miles regional student conference where the YSAs judged the students challenge task projects, put on workshops, and took part in Q&A sessions with children in grades year 4-7 from schools from the Darling Downs Region.

Next week she'll be visiting three different schools in the Rockhampton/Gladstone area and giving lessons to 11 different classes of students between grade 4 and 6.

Josie says that the children and teachers are so enthusiastic and willing to get involved, it’s a joy to be part of!!
