Two international PhD students from our team recently got their theses conferred. Matthijs Hollanders and Thais Sasso successfully completed their PhDs studying the Fleay’s barred frog (Mixophyes fleayi). Thais completed her doctorate at Griffith University in Brisbane, and Matt at Southern Cross University in Lismore. They both began their research in 2018, and were the first two PhD students to join the frog research team.
Matt’s thesis was a result of a long mark-recapture study in NSW. His work revealed chytrid infection levels, rate of clearing infections, and mortality across life stages of M. fleayi in recovering populations. Find more about his work here.
Thais’ thesis looked at the interactions between M. fleayi and chytrid across the host geographical distribution in QLD and NSW. She also sampled environmental DNA from the streams to monitor the presence of the pathogen in the habitat where M. fleayi breeds. Find more about her work here.
Congratulations to Doctor Thais and Doctor Matt!
